We understand that selling your West Chester textbooks back can be a frustrating experience. In order to get the best deals and to be able to decide whether to sell them or not, you have to understand how the process works. The following is a simple guide for West Chester students that explains some of the key factors and key questions we hear from students most. Hope this helps!

.

How are buyback prices calculated?

Buyback prices can vary based on several factors:

If a book is being used the following semester, we will pay a higher price, sometimes up to 50% of the used price!

Supply and Demand – each bookstore has a quota for used books. Once they buy back that quantity, the price often defaults to a wholesale price determined by wholesale book companies.

Edition changes – If a new edition of the book you are selling back is due to come out, wholesale values drop.

Condition of book – Unfortunately we cannot buy back wet or damaged textbooks, and in some cases, study guides that are heavily marked or have pages missing.

Should I sell my West Chester textbooks back now or wait for a later time?

Generally, it is best to sell back your textbooks as soon as possible. If you intend to re-read the text, use it for a future course, or use it for reference, then you should hold on to the book. However, when you keep the book, you take the chance of having the book’s value decrease. The depreciation can be due to several factors, such as the book having a large stock available, being an old edition, or having a new edition pending.

My friend just sold their book back for a higher price than mine, what’s the deal?

Most college bookstores only need a certain number of textbooks per semester. Once we hit our quota for textbooks needed, the price of the text usually defaults to a wholesale price. The key to getting a higher price is to sell your books as soon as you know that you no longer need it. Generally, this means early on during finals week.

Why are custom textbooks often not bought back?

Custom textbooks are made specifically for the university–often particular to a professor and their course section. These specially-made books can change between semesters. Moreover, there are no wholesale prices for the nationwide vendors, since they are not able to sell it to other schools. Occasionally, a custom textbook does get reused here at WCU, in which case, we would offer to buy it back.

Why can’t we sell back International Editions, Advance Copies, or Teacher’s Editions of textbooks?

Most of those International Editions, Advance Copies, or Teacher’s Editions do not have wholesale value, and cannot be sold or re-sold in the U.S. Many professors frown upon bookstores for selling these books and there is significant legal pressure from publishers, as well.

Why do I need the CD for my textbook to sell it back?

Without the CD, the textbook loses its value and may become unsellable to future students, who may actually need the CD for use in their class.

We believe that Dynamic has the best overall deal for you when it comes to selling back your WCU Textbooks, but we encourage you to find out for yourself by shopping around and comparing prices.
